MEBO Group has gradually developed an institution system including China National Science and Technology Center for Burns, Wounds and Ulcers (CNSTC), and the Chinese Journal of Burns, Wounds and Surface Ulcers Society to worldwide spread and popularize Moist Exposed Burn and Ulcer Medical Science proposed by Professor Rongxiang Xu. The system accomplishes the mission by means of training, academic exchanging, publishing professional journals and setting up a national medical network to provide first aid service and medical supervision. Other organizations such as China Burn (West-East) Association, Doctors group, Information Department were successively established to provide services on various aspect..

Academic System

The life medical science system pursuant to life regularity proposed by Professor Rongxiang Xu is a unique and forerunning academic system dominated by Chinese medicine philosophy and enriched with the tools of modern medical research to ensure the health of human being. It is to insist academic system to be pioneered that MEBO Group has grown up indomitably in challenging environments along with MEBT/MEBO increasingly developing. Therefore, the group continually keeps a consistent aim to perfect Moist Exposed Burn Medical Science based on life medical science, and accordingly establishes a comprehensive academic system integrated with the functions of academic development, exchange and management.

To promote academic exchange and development is the primary task of academic system. Since 1988, the academic system has held four national conferences on Burns, Wounds and Ulcers as well as Advanced Symposium on Moist Exposed Burn Therapy, the Seminar on Burn therapy of Chinese members of International Society for Burn Injuries. It also organized and sponsored several international meetings, such as the East-West Conference on Pain Management, Symposium on Burn of World Integrated Medicine Congress. These academic activities play crucial roles in strengthening the academic forces to form a unique burn science system. The National Academic seminar on MEBT in 1992 issued the famous Declaration of Binzhou explicating Moist Exposed Burn Medical Science comprehensively and systematically and identifying its academic role in burn therapy. Subsequently a committee of specialists was established in 1993. In 1994 the conventional burn surgical therapy and moist exposed burn therapy were scientifically defined respectively in the Seminar on Burn Therapy attended by Chinese members of International Society for Burn Injuries, which also clarified the main steam and direction for future burn therapy. All these academic activities contribute to organizing a team of senior, middle and young-aged professionals who have rich practice experiences and theoretical knowledge on MEBT. To respond the successful development of MEBT therapy in China, China National Burns Association (West-East) was officially founded on December 28 of 1996, which is a unique and independent academic system based on the therapy treating burns by skin repair and regeneration. The committee with local branches across the country is composed of 65 members, 51 of whom hold senior entitles. From then on, the academic activities of the group are put into a track of the management of the committee while academic system fulfills its missions by involving in and supporting the committee.

To popularize MEBT worldwide so as to benefit human being, Chinese Science and Technology Center for Burns, Wounds and Ulcers has invited experts from USA, UK, France, Syria, UAE, Israel, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, Egypt to China for academic exchange by demonstrating and training MEBT. Meanwhile, Professor Rongxiang Xu, president of the group and inventor of the therapy, has been invited by Ministries of Health and academic organizations to give lectures and presentations on the technology of the therapy in many countries.

It is a special function of academic system to put forward research projects to be conducted with strong financial support from MEBO Group. In 1997 alone, the group spent one million RMB in conducting 16 research projects about treating extensive burns with MEBT.

The Chinese Journal of Burns, Wounds and Ulcers is an important arena to promote academic exchange and development. In addition to the academic forum and theory research sections of superior quality, the Journal provides columns on clinic burn therapy and orthopedic implants. It plays an important role in the establishment and development of MEBT.

Medical First Aid System

MEBO Group, aiming at the research and development of moist medical science for burns and ulcers to benefit human being, entrusted its institution system, China National Science and Technology Center for Burns, Wounds & Ulcers (CNSTC) to organize and activate a National Medical (First Aid) Network for Burns, Wounds & Ulcers (NMNB). Jointed by 65 burn centers and over 4500 hospitals, the network has spread to almost all the national hospitals at prefecture and county levels. Whenever severe burns happen in China, burn patients can be timely treated with MEBT/MEBO through the service provided by medical network, dramatically improve the situation that burn patients could not receive appropriate medical attention timely. The burn cases treated with MEBT/MEBO by various burn centers and hospitals within the network increased from the initial 150 thousand to the current 350 thousands each year with a total cure rate of 99.42% and rate of 92% for severe patients with over 90% TBSA (total burn surface area).

Over 100 medical first-aid activities were performed under the conduct of the network during past years, and over 200 experts were involved in emergency treatment. Whenever or wherever burns happen, the medical first aid network will direct local burn centers/hospitals to organize a medical team who are the first one to arrive and carry out on-the-spot treatment.

In 1990, there came a severe burn accident caused by bus explosion in Xinhuang County of Hunan Province. All patients were diagnosed as II degree burns with a largest 93% TBSA in a critical condition. The People's Hospital of Xinhuang County, one of the NMNB members, immediately sent doctors for the medical first aid before patients being admitted into the hospital. It is 20 days later that 10 patients treated with MEBT/MEBO healed and discharged from hospital. This event was widely spread and also was highly evaluated by Health Ministry, Hunan provincial government, and Health Department of Hunan Province.

In 1994, a disastrous fire was caught in Kelamayi, Xinjiang Province. The first medical team arrived on the spot was from a encamped military fire-fighter hospital, one of NMNB members. Their application of MEBT/MEBO in the early stage saved tile time for the later treatment to rescue lives and reduce mortality.

In 1995, a massive burns took place in Jiaozuo, Henan Province. The Traditional Chinese Medical Hospital of Jiaozuo, under the technique supervision of CNSTC, successfully treated 8 severe burn victims who healed within 50 days without any disablement. The municipal government of Jiaozuo gave a high evaluation on their achievement.

In August of 1995, another massive burns happened in Henan Province. Among 22 burn patients, 7 suffered burns of 90% TBSA, 8 of 80-90% TBSA, 6 of 60-80% TBSA and 1 of 50% TBSA. With the efforts of doctors from Nanyang burn center of CNSTC, all patients healed, with zero mortality and no disablement, which set a new record of success in treating massive burns in the world.
